Zero Confirmation

/ˈziːroʊ kənˌfɜrˈmeɪʃən/noun

Zero Confirmation is a term used in the world of blockchain technology to refer to unconfirmed transactions. A digital currency transaction that has been broadcast to the network but has not yet been confirmed by any block on the blockchain.

The period of time between when a transaction is conveyed and when it is incorporated in a block and officially confirmed is thus termed Zero Confirmation.

Zero Confirmation transactions carry a risk of being double-spent or invalidated. Merchants and crypto users however assume that a zero-confirmation transaction will eventually be included in a block and therefore treat it as valid.
