Genesis Block

/ˈdʒɛnəsɪs blɒk/noun

Genesis Block refers to the first block of a blockchain network. The Genesis Block is an important foundation upon which subsequent blocks are built. The Genesis Block has unique characteristics and is the point of origin for the entire blockchain's transaction history.

Thus, characteristics such as timestamps and the initial distribution of cryptocurrency tokens are hardcoded into the blockchain's protocol. The Genesis Block helps in maintaining the blockchain's integrity and serves as a reference point for all later blocks and transactions within the network.
